About Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine

Does acupuncture work?
Acupuncture and East Asian medicine including Chinese medicine has been used for over three thousand years with great success. More people are discovering that Chinese medicine can be their first stop for many ailments and disorders.

Does acupuncture hurt?
The needles used for treatment are typically 5 times the diameter of a human hair (very small). Most patients report feeling nothing but a general relaxed sensation. Needles used in acupuncture are very thin and do not focus on the nervous system but rather on the energy meridians running through the body. Chinese Herbal Medicine consultations are also offered. Acupuncture treatments typically take about 20 minutes.

What are Chinese herbs?
In China, people have been using herbal medicine to address a wide variety of diseases and conditions for thousands of years. The herbs are composed of roots, bark, flowers, seeds, fruits, leaves, branches and minerals which have been conveniently packaged in pill form in most cases. There are over 500 Chinese herbs which are used for medicinal purposes. It is important to consult a professional to be sure that you are using the right herbs from the best source to gain the full benefit for your personal physical constitution. Atara Noiade, DAOM, has been in practice since 2000 and is fully certified in Acupuncture and Herbal Medicine by the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine(NCCAOM), the recognized commission for Chinese Medicine in the U.S.

Do you have unresolved pain or discomfort?
Have you tried everything else with minimal results? Acupuncture may be the answer for you. Acupuncture is among the oldest healing practices in the world. As part of traditional Chinese medicine, a whole medical system originating in China, it is based on the concept that disease results from disruption in the flow of qi and imbalance in the forces of yin and yang.

Acupuncture is the stimulation of specific points on the body by a variety of techniques, including the insertion of very thin metal needles though the skin. It is intended to remove blockages in the flow of qi and restore and maintain health. Acupuncture has long been used in China and other countries to resolve disorders large and small, and is often used simply for mild stress relief.

The effectiveness of Acupuncture as a part of Chinese Medicine is well documented and is endorsed as a system of primary health care by the World Health Organization.
